Toronto’s best farmers’ markets by day of the week

As a Frenchwoman who grew up in a small village in south-eastern France, I spent hours at the market on Friday mornings. Something I missed a little when I moved to Toronto. The market here is less of an institution than in France, but there are still several throughout the city. In this article, I’ll share with you all the best farmers’ markets in Toronto by day, to make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for. And fill your basket with good produce.

A few tips before going to the market

• Be sure to bring cash, as many merchants don’t accept credit cards. And withdrawing cash from ATMs around here can be expensive. I explain all this in my article on how to choose your bank in Canada.
• Remember to take your reusable bags to limit the use of plastic bags.
• Not all Toronto farmers’ markets are open all year round, depending on the weather. Be sure to check the opening date of the season if you’re reading this article in spring. Or the end-of-season date if you’re reading this article in autumn.

Tuesday

Trinity Bellwoods Farmer’s Market

I’ve already mentioned this popular Toronto park in my article on where to see the Sakura cherry blossoms in Toronto. Another reason to visit this park: the farmers’ market on Tuesday afternoons during the summer season. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. you can enjoy a stroll through the park to fill your basket with local seasonal produce. More information on their website.

Davisville Farmers Market

If you’re not in the Trinity Bellwoods area, you may be better served by this option, which takes place at the same time. In the Davisville district, you’ll find plenty of fresh produce on Tuesdays at the end of the day. The market takes place in June Rowlands Park. More information is available on their website.

East York Farmers’ Market

A little further west, you can find fresh produce at the East York Farmers’ Market. Just a fifteen-minute walk from Coxwell station. Right next door to the East York Civic Centre. More information on their Instagram.

Cabbagetown Farmers’ Market

Head east to discover one of the other Toronto farmers’ markets. The Cabbagetown Market gives priority to Southern Ontario producers. The market’s mission is to reconnect the local community with the people who produce their food. More information on their website.

Wednesday

Nathan Philips Square Farmers’ Market

This market has been around for over 30 years. You can find it right next to the famous Toronto sign in front of city hall. A little smaller than some of the others on this list, but very convenient. I used to pass by it often on my way to work back in the day. More info on their Instagram.

Annette Village Farmers’ Market

Located on the north side of High Park, you’ll find a market selling everything from vegetables to wine and fruit. It’s the place to be in the neighborhood. What’s more, every Wednesday evening you can enjoy live music by local artists. The market takes place at Runnymede Presbyterian Church. More information on their website.

Bloor Borden Farmers’ Market

I stumbled across this market on a walk several years ago. Small but cute! Lots of organic vegetables but also local beers (Great Lakes Brewery, which also has a store near St Lawrence Market. Tested and approved by my boyfriend!) More information on their website.

Thursday

The Underpass Park Farmer Markets

This market is held every Thursday between May and October in the Corktown neighbourhood. It started in 2017 on the initiative of a volunteer. Since then you can find several vendors selling vegetables, eggs, honeys etc. The full list of the type of products you can find can be found on their website here.

Metro Hall “Indulge” Farmers’ Market

This market takes place in downtown Toronto. I couldn’t find many details about the vendors. But it takes place on David Pecaut Square, on the side of John and King Street.

North York Farmers’ Market

Just looking at their website makes me want to visit this market! The list of merchants is really appealing. You’ll find plenty of local produce, honey and even a French bakery! It takes place in Mel Lastman Square, just off the North York Centre metro station.

Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market

Every Thursday afternoon you can enjoy this organic market, which has been running since 2002. You can find it at New Dufferin Grove Clubhouse, in the north-west corner of the park. More information on their website.

East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market

This market is a bit special. It’s not just about the market, it’s also about Danforth volunteers offering activities for children. For example, children can join a program to help a grower and learn more about the trade. More information on their website.

Saturday

St Lawrence Market Farmers’ Market

If you are following me on Instagram and Youtube As you know, I’m a regular at the St Lawrence Market farmers’ market on Saturday mornings. I go there mainly for the eggs, better value than the stores around me, and for the vegetables. But there’s always a long queue at the butcher’s so I guess he’s good too! It’s located behind the main building, in a white tent (Jarvis and Esplanade). You’ll find more info on their website.

Evergreen Brick Works Farmers’ Market

I’ve already told you about this place in my article on fall colours in Toronto. It’s a really cool place that also has a Saturday morning farmers’ market. You’ll find local producers. More information on their website. They also have summer opening hours from May, from 8am to 2pm.

Etobicoke Civic Centre Farmers’ Market

We’re off to the east of the city to enjoy the Etobicoke market! It’s not easy to find more info, so I’d recommend a little Google search before you go! But I did want to add some options for markets in Toronto outside the city center.

Weston Farmers’ Market

This market on the north side of town has been in existence for over 40 years. It takes place at the Artscape Weston Commons. You’ll find vegetables, meat and a bakery. Enough to stock up for the week. And it’s all accompanied by background music from local artists. More information on their website.

The Junction Farmers’ Market

Another neighbourhood, another market. Saturday is a busy day for farmers’ markets in Toronto. Head for The Junction, not far from High Park, where you can kill two birds with one stone. A trip to the market to stock up on good produce and a stroll in the park. More information on their website.

Humber Bay Shores Farmers’ Market

It’s perhaps one of the most scenic markets in Toronto. This market takes place in Humber Bay, a neighbourhood that has grown enormously in recent years. You’ll find over 40 vendors, from vegetables to cheese to honey. More information on their website.

Sunday

Leslieville Farmers’ Market

I love the Leslieville neighborhood, so now that there’s a Sunday morning market, I’m even more excited! It takes place in Greenwood Park. With over 55 vendors, there’s something for everyone: from fruit and vegetables to drinks and crafts. More information on their website.

Afro-Caribbean Farmers’ Market

This market is located in Toronto’s Little Jamaica district. You’ll find products from the Caribbean and Africa. Lori Beazer the founder started this project in 2017. The 12-week pilot was a success, but it took her team 3 years to find a permanent space. Since 2020 the market has been a success! More information on their website. Deeply Rooted Farmers’ Market

Established in 2021, this market’s mission is to showcase black and indigenous producers, facilitate access to fresh produce for these communities and encourage the circular economy between communities. You’ll find a greater diversity of products than at other markets. A great initiative. More information on their website.
